Beautiful Oval Enameled Box The First Presbyterian Church Wilmington, DE By Crummles & Co. England

Description: This is an oval-shaped enamel on copper trinket box. The box has a hinged lid that is nicely decorated with a colorful transfer image of brown building surrounded by trees. The box is light blue colored on the outside and white on the inside. The inside of the lid has information about the scene on the lid written in detail "The First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, Delaware 1740 N.S.C.D.A." The box has an oval flat base with rising curved sides. The bottom of the inside is undecorated. Both top and bottom are fitted with brass rings having a hinge on the back and a thumb piece on the front of the top portion. The inside of the box is also enameled and has a white coloring. The bottom of the box is also light blue in color and is marked as to the maker. The brass ends of both the top and bottom are clean, shiny, and add immensely to the beauty of this box. This is a very nice piece and would make a nice addition to your collection of small enameled boxes. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. 

Date: Unknown but most likely from the late 1900s (late 20th century). 

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in southeastern Pennsylvania. 

Size: The enameled box is ~1 3/4" by ~1 1/2" at the base and is ~1" high to the top of the lid. The box weighs about 1.3 ounces. 

Maker: Crummles & Co. 

Marks: Marked on the bottom with the Crummles &Co. logo consisting of with a cross with an inverted triangle at the bottom. There is a circle surrounding the inverted triangle with the letter ECR within the triangle and the entire image is surrounded by the words "MADE IN ENGLAND BY CRUMMLES & Co." within an oval border (see photos for details). 

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful and very interesting piece with historic value to add to your collection. 

Condition: The box is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or crazing. The box is clean and the lid closes very well. Please see photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of this box.
