Description: This is a very nice crown size silver coin from the Dominican republic. This is the one or un peso coin dated 1897. It depicts the image of a native princess as lady liberty with the word "LIBERTAD" in its hair on the obverse. The image of the bust is surrounded with words "UN PESO 1897" or "One Peso 1897." The reverse displays the Dominican Republic arms within a shield in the center surrounded with the legend "REPUB:LICA DOMINICANA 25 GRAMOS" and showing the mint mark "A". The coin has the reeded edge and is nicely toned. This is KM 16 and weighs ~24.7 grams and is ~37 mm in diameter. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Mint: The coin is known to have been minted in Philadelphia, USA but the dies for the coins were made in France.

Size and Weight: This is a one peso weighing ~24.7 grams 0.35 silver and measures approximately 37 mm in diameter.

References: It is KM #16.

Condition: I would grade the coin as nice fine or much better with nice toning and general wear to its details. The coin has wear to the high points and to most of the design features of the bust on the obverse as well as the arms on the reverse. The coin also has scratches, bag marks, and a few minor dings to the edges. It is still a very nice coin and a worthy addition to your collection.
