2000 Breininger Redware Sgraffito Decorated Bowl Liberty Bell Tulips Flowers
Description: A nice glazed and sgraffito decorated redware deep bowl by Breininger Pottery. The bowl has a flat round base with flared rounded sides rising to a formed and plain edge. The bowl is decorated with a sgraffito design depicting the Liberty Bell showing its famous crack, yoke, and protruding clapper in the center. The bell is surrounded by tulips and flowers with green coloring in the best Pennsylvania Dutch decorating tradition. The plate is glazed on the inside but not on the exterior. The exterior of the formed edge is imprinted with small flowers and hatching all along the periphery, very unusual! The unglazed back/exterior has the characteristic color of unglazed redware and is marked by the artist. The plate was made in the studios of Lester Breininger on May 4, 2000. This type of decoration is very much in the Pennsylvania Dutch style common in southeastern Pennsylvania specifically in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Lancaster counties. Of course, the bell is a patriotic subject chosen by the artist to honor our nation's liberty. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful small deep bowl made by the Breininger Pottery. A beautiful redware piece, which deserves a prominent spot in your redware collection.
Condition: The bowl is in excellent condition. It has no cracks, chips, repairs, or hairlines. The plate has general light crazing to the glaze. Additionally, the bowl has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots.
