4 July 1950 Egypt One Pound Banknote King Farouk P# 24a Signed Leith-Ross VF+++

  • $ 137.77

Description: A beautiful very fine or much better (almost extremely fine) banknote from Egypt. This is the July 4, 1950 one pound. The banknote is blue brown, lilac and green on the front. It has the image of King Farouk the first in a circular frame to the right and a lilac colored circle to the left of the front. The note is written in Arabic on the front with the serial number being in both Arabic and English. The back of the note is blue in color and depicts the image of the temple of Isis on the island of Philae in the Nile. The back has a white circle to the left of the front where the water mark is located. The back is written in English and shows the name of the National Bank of Egypt and the denomination both in numerals and spelled out. The note has a watermark showing the head of the Sphinx. This particular note has the serial number 609093 and is series GH/3. The note is lightly soiled but retains quite a bit of its original crispiness and stiffness. It was issued by the National Bank of Egypt and is signed by F. W. Leith-Ross, who was the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 4th July 1950.

Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. of New Malden, Surrey, England.

Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/4" by ~3 3/8".

Pick Number: P24a and is listed in the Banknote Book as B123a.

Condition: For international buyers, please note that US postal rates for overseas shipping are very high and we are unable to change them. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. Please check the cost of shipping before bidding. I would grade this banknote as a good very fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has light vertical folds but no detectable horizontal fold. The note is lightly soiled but retains quite a bit of its original stiffness and crispiness. It has no objectionable stains, no pinholes, no tears, no splits, and no graffiti, which is a miracle for an Egyptian banknote. The corners are intact with minor rounding and minimum bumps or creases. The edges are intact and show minimum roughness and soiling. A great looking scarce note, which would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
