Antique American Primitive Tin Push-up Candlestick Holder

  • $ 67.77

Description: An antique primitive tin push-up candlestick holder. The holder has a large round base with raised rounded edges. The edge itself is partially folded on itself to round it. The candle holder has a central column with a flat lever on its side that is used to raise and lower a mechanism within the column to push a candle up or down as necessary. The column has an upwards slightly rounded lip to ensure wax does not run down the column. The mechanism works as it should with the lever being a bit wiggly and not necessarily solidly in place but it does not come out. Also the column is not completely vertical but rather is slightly leaning one way. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the 1800.

Origin: Was acquired at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The base measure ~5 1/2" in diameter, the entire piece is ~3 7/8" tall and the diameter of the hole where the candle would fit is ~7/8". The piece weighs ~4 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of antique primitive Americana that would display nicely in any collection.

Condition: The candlestick holder is in fairly good condition and looks good to display. The piece has a nice gray coloring with rust spots throughout, especially on the plate. The edge of the plate has a small ding which can be seen at 7 o'clock in 6th photo and 3 o'clock in the 7th photo. The push-up mechanism is clean and works as it should. The lever, used to push the candle up, is a bit wiggly, feels loose and not necessarily solidly in place but it still does not come out when used and works as it should. Also the column is not completely vertical but rather is slightly leaning one way. The piece is soiled and has was residue here and there and could use a good cleaning but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. A very nice piece, which would display nicely in your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information.
