Antique Carved Wood Primitive Butter Print Four-part Floral Design Marked HL
Description: A nice Antique lathe turned and carved wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which appears to be made of a single piece of wood, has a carving depicting a floral design which repeats in the four corners of the circle with dividing lines within the central leaves. The edge of the print is decorated with short lines and a circle surrounding the four-part stylized floral design. The print has a knob like handle. The design is marked with the letters HL presumably the initials of the person who carved the print. This marking is rather unusual and makes this print a rare find since normally butter prints are rarely signed. The entire piece appears to be made of a light-colored hard wood. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~3 15/16" in diameter at the design part and is ~3" high. The piece weighs about 1.5 ounces.

Condition: The piece is in very good original condition with no breaks, repairs, or losses. The handle and back show some minor wear, light soiling, and age cracks to the wood. The front is clean and shows age cracks in the wood. All these cracks can be seen in the photos. They do not go completely through and do not compromise the integrity of the piece. The piece also shows scratches and minor dings. The design is clean suggesting the piece did not see much use, but rather was cherished by its previous owner. It has no losses and looks great.
