Antique Carved Wood Primitive Lollipop Butter Print PA Dutch Pinwheel Design

Description: A nice antique carved wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which appears to be made of a single piece of softwood, has a shaved rod handle and a round head. The head has a chip carved print of compass pinwheel. The round head also has 12 carved stars around the rim. The bottom oof the handle has a simple carved star. The back of the print has no carving and is flat. The compass pinwheel carving is reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch decoration usually seen in Hex Signs hanging on homes and barns in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. The edge of the print shows marks of chip carving all around. A nice and rather rare piece of native folk art to add to your collection. Date: Unknown, but most likely sometime in the mid 1800s (Mid 19th century).

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~8 3/8" long, with the head measuring ~4 1/2" in diameter and ~7/8" inn thickness. The handle is ~3 3/4" in length and ~3/4" in diameter at the bottom. The piece weighs over 3.5 ounces.

Marks: Unmarked as to the maker.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very interesting old butter print with a nice and very desirable Pennsylvania German design. Nice and very unusual butter print, which would make a great addition to your collection.

Condition: The piece is in very good original condition with no breaks, repairs, or losses. The piece shows wear, soiling, minor dings, and surface scratches. The design is very well done and clean suggesting the piece did not see much use, but rather was cherished by its previous owner. It has no losses and looks great.
