Antique Cast Iron Columbia Meat Juice Press Landers, Frary & Clark New Britain Connecticut
Description: This is an antique cast iron juicer or citrus press. This Columbia Meat Juice Press was made in the late 1800s by the Landers, Frary & Clark company in New Britain Connecticut. The cast iron piece is made of three distinct components, the press, the cup and the pressing handle. The screw on the press would be raised and the pressing handle removed from the cup. A half lemon or orange would be inserted on top of the raised portion in the center of the cup and the press handle would be put on top of it. The screw of the press would be lowered and pressing the lemon or orange. The juice would then be poured through the spout in the cup. Very nice and ingenious old piece. Date: Uncertain but most likely late 1800's to early 1900's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was manufactured in New Britain Connecticut in the USA.
Size: Base measures ~4 1/2" in diameter and the piece is ~8" high when it is pressing on the press handle. The press handle is ~4 1/8" long. This is a very substantial item weighing about 5 pounds.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice antique, which is rather interesting and uncommon. This is really a substantial piece weighing about 5 pounds. A very nice antique which would make a great addition to your collection.
Condition: It is in relatively good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no breaks, cracks, repairs or losses. It shows extensive wear, substantial soiling, Loss of paint or finish, and lots of rust especially on the press' screw, the handle, and the inside of the cup. There is also losses to the paint again especially on the bottom of the base with some of the paint flaking off. Other than that the piece is in working well but could use a good cleaning and oiling to make it fully functional. Please see photos for additional condition information.
