Antique Chromed Brass? Match Safe Raised Design Hound Chasing Fox W/ Bird on Lid
Description: Antique pocket match safe, matchsafe or vesta made of a chromed metal (we believe brass). The match safe has a raised design, on one side, depicting a hound chasing a fox in the woods. The chase shows the fox looking backwards at the hound, there are trees and plants surrounding the scene. The oblong shaped match safe has a hinged lid on one of the ends, which has the raised bird in a flying posture. The repoussé design of the hound and fox appears to be done on a separate plate that was not chromed but is attached to the top of the box or vesta. Interesting construction and design. The bird on the hinged lid also appears to be separately done then attached to the lid. The matchsafe has a striker for the matches on the bottom opposite the lid. The lid hinge works well and closes tight. This match safe is a bit unusual in the sense that it is oblong with the lid being flush with the side. A very unusual and nice-looking match safe in excellent condition to add to your collection. Pleases carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Condition: The match safe, is chromed metal (possibly brass) and is in good clean condition with no major problems. The hinged lid works great and closes tightly as it should. The matchsafe has no breaks or repairs. The vesta has a few minor and shallow dings to exterior with the most noticeable on the back opposite where the hound and fox scene is located. It also has some surface scratches, some soiling, and general wear to the chromed exterior commensurate with the pieces age and utilitarian function.
