Antique Thick and Heavy Brass Continental Bell Metal Candlestick Holder
Description: A beautiful early brass bell metal candlestick holders having a shaped stem with a pronounced knop. The candlestick holder has a stepped base with incised lines rising to a central shaft with three balls. The central ball being larger than the other two. There is a flat disk, having a raised edge, at the top of the stem to catch molten wax from the candle. There is a short and shaped stem above the flat disk which ends in a cylindrical cup where the candle would fit. The cylindrical cup has a flat outwards extended rim as well as an extended base. The candlestick is thick and rather heavy for its size and appears to be held together with a ferrous (sticks to a magnet) shaft having a ferrous nut (see last two photos for details). The bottom of the base shows the signs of casting and has not been smoothed as it would have been for more modern candlesticks (again see last two photos). The fact that the candle is unmarked suggests it is rather early but we are uncertain of the date. The candlestick holder is in good condition after being around for a long time. The candlestick is unmarked and is of unknown origin. A beautiful brass bell metal candlestick to use around your home or to add to your collection. Date: Unknown but we believe it could be from the early 1800s or early 1900s (early 19th or early 20the century).
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. We believe the candlestick is continental in origin, possibly Dutch.
Size: The piece measures ~8 1/4"" high with the base measuring ~4" in diameter. The opening where the candle would fit is ~1" in diameter on the inside and is ~1 1/4" deep. The candlestick weighs over 3 pounds and 7 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice old candlestick holder having a beautiful uncommon design with a great look. A great piece to use around your home or worthy of a spot in your collection.
Condition: The candlestick holder is in good used condition. It has no breaks or repairs, and appears to be all original. It has surface scratches, waxy residue, some stains, and soiling, which we believe can be easily cleaned. The flat tray has a couple of bumps or possibly manufacturing defect (we are not certain) at the edge. The body of the candlestick shows scratches and what appears to be casting roughness here and there but these are minor and do not distract from the quality or beauty of the piece. The piece is rather heavy for its size and is in very good used condition. It is great looking, unusual, and beautiful. Please see photos for additional condition information.
