Bank of Belgian Congo Deuxieme Emission-1942 Five Francs Banknote Pick Number 13 Nice Fine or Better

  • $ 137.77

Description: A nice fine banknote or better from the Belgian Congo. This is the undated "DEUXIEME EMISSION-1942" five Francs currency note issued by the Bank of the Belgian Congo. The banknote is red on green underprint on the front with the image of an allegorical woman sitting on vine-wrapped Roman column with a child looking at a beehive. The front is in French and shows the serial number in black twice. This particular note has the serial number B274903, and has the overprint in black indicating it is "DOUXIEME EMISSION-1942." The back is red and has the image of an elephant and hippopotamus in the jungle. The back has text in Flemish. The note has no watermark neither does it have a security thread. Please carefully review scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: The note is undated but has the overprint saying "DEUXIEME EMISSION-1942" on the front. Printer: Waterlow & Sons, Ltd, London England.

Size: The banknote measures ~4" by ~3 1/4".

Pick Number: P13 and is listed in the Banknote Book as B209a.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good fine or better. The note is soiled with fold, creases, and general wrinkling throughout. It has minor pinholes along the central horizontal line. The edges have general roughness but no losses. The corners show rounding and bumps. The note has no graffiti and does not appear to have any tears or splits. All in all, a nice rare note to add to your collection. Please view the scan presented for additional condition information.
