Nice Large Bronze Coin 1869 AD-1277 AH Year 10 One Year Type Egyptian 40 Para (Qirsh) Ottoman Sultan Abdul Aziz Choice Extremely Fine or Better

  • $ 139.99

Description: A great looking choice extremely fine or better 1869 AD (1277 AH year 10 of Abdul Aziz's reign) Egyptian, while under Ottoman rule, 40 para or one Qirsh bronze coin. This rather rare large flan coin depicts the tughra of Abdul Aziz (the Ottoman Sultan, in Turkey, at the time) on the obverse and denomination below it. The reverse has the Legend "Duribah Fee Misr 1277" (struck in Fustat on the outskirts of modern day Cairo the capital of Egypt in 1277AH) and shows that it was struck in the 10th year of Abdul Aziz's reign, translating to 1869. The year 1277 AH (1861 AD) is the year when Abdul Aziz became sultan This is a one year type coin and is listed as KM 248.1. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1869.

Mint: Egypt.

Size and Weight: This is a 40 para or one Qirsh and measures about 37 mm and weighs about 25 grams of bronze.

References: It is KM #248.1.

Condition: I would grade this coin as choice extremely fine or better. It has all of its details very well preserved and has nice eye appeal. The coin is much better than the scan shows and shows a beautiful chocolate toning. The coin has some hairlines on the obverse and hence our grade of XF instead of AU or better. It does have scratches, a few minor stains, and wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. It has a minor minting defect in the form of a crevasse under the letter "Dad" on the reverse, which is an original defect in the flan and is small and does not affect the quality or beauty of this coin. The coin still has great eye appeal. Please see photo for additional condition information.
