Rare Antique Cast Iron Painted Figural Bottle Opener Goose Standing Head Turned

Description: A rare antique painted cast iron bottle opener in the form of a goose standing with its head up. The goose's head is turned slightly to its left. The piece is painted in an off-white color and shows cast details of the head, wings, and tail. The head shows the outline of the eyes and the pupils. The piece has lost quite a bit of its original paint, shows some minor rust signs and some soiling. The goose is standing on a base with a raised end. The raised end in conjunction with the tail form the opener. The bottom of the base is flat and shows signs of rust as well as residual paint. Date: Unknown but most likely late 1800s to early 1900s.

Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measures ~2 5/8" high, the base is ~1 3/8" by ~1 1/4", and the bird itself is ~3 5/8" long from end to end. The piece weighs about 8 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and uncommon old piece, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.

Condition: The bottle opener is in good overall condition, with no breaks or repairs. The piece has lost quite a bit of its original paint, shows some minor rust signs and some soiling. The bottom of the base is flat and shows signs of rust as well as residual paint. All of these issues can be seen in the photos.
