Vintage German Stoneware Lidded 0.5 L Stein Cobalt Blue on Gray Lion Decoration

  • $ 59.99

ADescription: very nicely decorated stoneware stein with a pewter lid. The lid is multi level domed in shape with a pineapple? shaped top. The lid has floral raised decoration along the edge of the middle step and having what we believe is a slightly bent thumb piece. The exterior of the stein has a cobalt blue raised design showing a floral design with crowned lions standing on both sides of an inscription in German. The inscription, which we did not try to translate, is in the center of the stein opposite the handle. The stein is substantial and has a nice appearance and style with an off-white or gray interior and base. The stein has an applied ear-shaped handle with the hinge for the lid being attached to it. It has a round flat bottom with the inscription "237" and what looks like a "t" with an additional leg. It is also marked 0.5 L for a capacity of half a liter along the edge of the rim. The hinged lid is made of pewter and has a thumb piece decorated with raised scroll design. The stein is glazed both on the inside and outside. A nice and substantial stein weighing about one pound and 8 ounces. A beautiful stein to add to your collection.
