Vintage Tin Kettle Wooden Handle and Finial Straight Spout

Description: Old low profile tin kettle. The kettle which has a round flat base has inwards slanted sides ending in a flat top with a large central hole. The kettle has a tight fitting lid having a wooden finial in its center. The kettle has a straight rising spout and two riveted riser to which a wire handle is attached. The swinging wire handle has a wooden shaped tube in the center to carry the kettle. Both the wood in the handle and in the finial are painted black. The exterior of the kettle has a silver colored finish, while the interior and the bottom are unfinished. The piece is characterized by its low profile and has an interesting look. Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid-1900's.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southern New Jersey.

Size: The kettle measures ~7 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~5 1/2" in diameter at the top with an opening measuring ~3 1/2" in diameter. The spout is ~3 1/4" long and is ~1/2 diameter at its top opening. The piece weighs almost 8 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice vintage kitchen item that is in good used condition, which would be a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The kettle is in good used condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no breaks or repairs. The surface is lightly soiled, has some surface scratches, nicks, has lost some of the silvery finish, and has several bangs and dings throughout. The wood in the handle and finial are intact and in good condition with the finial a bit loose, but still solidly in place. The lid fits well and tightly and is difficult to remove and reinsert. Be that as it may this is a great looking old piece which would make for a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
