Vintage Wrought Iron Miniature Butcher Tasting Ladle with Brass Bowl and Copper Rivets Decorated Handle with Rat Tail End Signed T. Loose

  • $ 149.99

Description:  A beautiful miniature and rather dainty handmade butcher taster or tasting ladle. This miniature taster has a wrought iron handle attached to brass bowl with copper rivets. The slightly curved handle has a flattened portion at the top (away from the bowl) which goes to a solid tubular portion which is then flattened at the end and riveted to the bowl. The flattened portion is decorated with beautiful scroll incised work along the edges on the front. It is stamped on the back "T. LOOSE". The handle of the taster ends in a curved portion (rat tail) from which the taster would be hung. The brass bowl  handle is obviously hammered as can be seen in the images as is the handle which started as a solid iron rod and it was flattened and decorated by the blacksmith who made it, Thomas Loose of Berks County PA. The bowl is thin, round and is made of brass. It is attached to the handle with two copper rivets. This is a great looking vintage piece which would make a great addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nicely done dainty wrought iron, brass, and copper taster that is made in the best Americana tradition. It would be a great addition to any collection.

Condition:  Taster is in very good condition with no cracks, breaks or repairs. The piece has signs of oxidation on the handle. The brass bowl is soiled and stained, but would clean nicely if you so desire.  The handle is a bit bent, but we are certain it can be straightened out with ease. In addition, the handle shows some minor signs of oxidation, spots of discoloration, scratches, and some defects which happened in the making. Be that as it may, the piece is solid and beautiful and really looks great. Please see photos for additional condition information.
