Description: A nice glazed and nicely decorated redware bird figurine made by James C Seagreaves. This is a whimsical brown and yellow colored bird, typical of Seagreaves' work, having black highlights and blue colored tail. The bird is hollow and stands on an oval shaped base with its edge colored in black. The bird figurine has raised design outlining the feathers in the wings, the legs, the feet, and the eyes. The bird's legs are yellow with black dots while its feet or claws are in black. The oval base of the piece is marked on the underside "JCS." The head of the bird is looking forward with the bord's beak open. The piece is hollow but has raised details throughout. A beautiful piece of modern folk art redware to add to your collection. Date: Uncertain but most likely sometime in the period 1950-1970.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The base measures ~3 1/8" by ~1 7/8", while the bird itself is ~7" long, is ~2 1/2" at its widest, and ~5 3/4" at its highest. The piece weighs about 9 ounces.

Maker: James Christian Seagreaves.

Marks: Marked "JCS" on bottom in cursive calligraphy.
