1920 Armenia 5,000 Rubles Pick Number 28 Government Bank Yerevan Brach Issue Nice VG or Better Banknote

  • $ 49.99

Description: A rather uncommon and scarce bank note from Armenia. This is the 5,000 rubles note issued by the Yerevan Branch of the Government Bank. The note has black inscription on a light brown or purple underprint on the front and has type written text without underprint (well you can see the design from the front coming through). The note is dates August 1919 on the front and has two signatures. The back has the issue date of 15 January 1920 and has three signatures with the third one fairly faded in the center near the bottom edge. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1919. However, the note itself was issued sometime January 15, 1920.

Printer: Armenian Government Bank the Yerevan Branch.

Size: The banknote measures ~7" by ~4".

Pick Number: P28.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very good or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has several vertical folds and a horizontal fold. It has a stain or foxing in the center. It also has two tears along the central vertical fold. The one starting at the top edge is about 1" long and the one starting at the bottom edge is about 1/2" long. The note has lost quite a bit of its original stiffness and crispiness. It has even soiling throughout and general roughness along the edges with several short tears along the edges, most pronounced are those along the right edge. The note has no pinholes but has a small hole at center from excessive folding. The corners of the note are intact with rounding, a few folds and creases, and some minor nicks which are also present all along the edges. The note is limp but is all there with no missing parts. If it was not for the tears along the central vertical fold I would have graded it as a fine. This is a nice note, which has seen quite a bit of circulation and handling but still retains its integrity. Just a great piece to add to your collection. Please carefully review the scans presented for additional condition information.
