1986 Fedoskino Signed Hand Painted Russian Lacquer Box Dancing In Village Square
Description: This is a beautiful large 1986 paper-mache Russian Lacquer Box from the village of Fedoskino. This rectangular box has a hinged lid and a flat base with four small round feet to rest on. The top of the lid is decorated with a beautiful and very well executed hand painted scene depicting four women dancing on a circle in what we believe is the village square. There are musicians in the back ground. One is playing an accordion and another is playing mandolin or balalaika. There are people watching, three women and three men. There are houses in the background. The scene appears to be in the dusk with light sky and tree branches without leaves. The miniature painting is very well executed with gold, brilliant red, mother of pearl, silver colors. It is brilliant and beautiful. The box is marked in Cyrillic lettering with the word "Fedoskino 1986" in the bottom left hand corner of the image. It is also marked win Cyrillic with what we believe is the artist's signature in the bottom right hand corner. The painting shows details in gold and MOP and as usual is rather colorful. A true beauty very well-done and proudly signed by the artist. The inside of the box is colored in the usual red color used in Russian lacquer boxes. Origin: Fedoskino Village school of miniatures.
Size: The box measures ~6 1/4" by ~4 1/2" and is ~2 1/4" high when closed. The box weighs over thirteen ounces.
Marks: Marked in Cyrillic "Fedoskino 1986" in the bottom left hand corner of the image and is signed by the artist again in Cyrillic in the bottom right hand corner.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A very beautiful and well done design with beautiful vivid colors. Gold, MOP, and tempera makes this nice box a very good addition to your collection of Russian Lacquer Boxes.
Condition: The box is in very good condition. The box has no cracks, breaks, repairs, or hairlines. It is signed and dated and was made in one of the best-known areas where this art is being done, namely Fedoskino. It has no observable crazing or losses of colors or lacquering throughout. The only thing we see is a small chip at the left bottom corner on the back which we show in the last photo. The art work on top of the lid is intact, beautiful, well executed, and in very good shape with no losses or fading. The hinge works well and the lid sits well on top of the box. The interior is clean with vivid red coloring and exhibiting no losses. Please view the photos for additional condition information.
