1995 Hand Painted Fedoskino Russian Lacquer Box Girl at the Stove By Vragova

  • $ 87.77

Description: This is a nice square shaped paper-mache or papier-mache Russian Lacquer Box with hinged lid from Fedoskino. The box, which has a hinged lid and a flat base, has a very colorful decorated top. The top of the lid is decorated with a well executed hand painted image of a beautiful girl leaning on a stove (according to Lucy Maxym's book Volume II page 79). She is dressed in red with a head cover having a pointed shape and gold stripes. The girl has a pearl necklace and a white shirt. Her red dress is decorated with a gold colored motif. This famous Fedoskino image is executed very well with great detail by Vragova and is signed and dated by him along the bottom edge of the lid. The sides of the box have a gold repeating motif on all four sides. The edge of the lid also has a chain gold decoration along the edge with a floral motif at the corners. The box is marked along the bottom edge of the design with the words "Fedoskino 1995" followed by the signature of the artist Vragova (see photos). The miniature painting is well made, colorful, and shows great details of girl's features, dress, and decorations of the dress and the stove. The painting shows details in gold, MOP, and egg tempera and as usual is rather colorful. The inside of the box is colored in the usual red color used in Russian lacquer boxes. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful and well done design with vivid colors. Gold, MOP, and egg tempera make this nice box a good addition to your collection of Russian Lacquer Boxes.

Condition: The box is in good condition. The box has no cracks, breaks, repairs, crazing, or hairlines. It is signed, dated and has indication of where it was made. The top f the lid has one small, and almost unobvious, spot where it looks like it was hit with a sharp object and chipped the surface at the bottom right corner and shows on the back of the lid. The bottom of the box has a similar spot but smaller at the corner (see last three photos). Be that as it may, the art work on top of the lid is intact, beautiful, well executed, and in very good shape with no losses or fading. The hinge works well and is intact. The interior is clean with vivid red coloring and exhibiting no losses. Because of the two hits at the top and bottom corners we are selling the piece "AS IS" at a fraction of its true value. Please view the photos for additional condition information.
