5 WWII Pocket Guides Issued by The War Department Cities of Netherlands, North and Southern France, Belgium and Uniform Insignia

  • $ 77.77

Description: A lot of five small booklets issued by the War Department in Washington DC during World War II. The booklets are all titled Pocket Guide to and cover the following subjects:

  • Paris and Cities of Northern France
  • The Cities of Southern France
  • The cities of the Netherlands
  • The cities of Belgium and Luxemburg
  • Uniform Insignia of United States, British Empire, USSR, France, China, Poland.

The books were obviously distributed to military personnel in Europe as guides to the cities and towns they may find themselves in. The four city guides have maps, description of places of interest, information about the city, and some historic facts. The fifth booklet details uniform insignias of the various armies present and is the only book that has color images. The books are very interesting and offer a window on what the War Department felt was important for the personnel to know about the cities of Europe in the mid 1940s. All five books have cardstock covers. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Size: The four books of cities measure ~5 1/4" by ~4 1/4"and vary in he number of pages. The fifth book, which is dedicated to Uniform Insignia measures ~6" by ~4 1/4." The entire lot weighs about 8 ounces.

Condition: The booklets are in relatively good condition with mostly clean pages. The books are complete with no missing pages. The insignia book has hand written name on the cover, has some bumps and bends, and some folded corners. The others are clean with minimum signs of use and minor bumps to the corners. They do not have writing on or in them. All five books have scuff marks and light soiling to the covers but in general the books are all in good lightly used to never used condition. The only book that probably saw a pocket in the insignia book. The others more than likely have never been in a pocket. The pages are clean, free of writing, and have no intentional dog ears. This is a great find to add to your library of military or WWII literature. Please see the photos for additional condition information.
