Antique Agateware or Graniteware Mottled Gray Small Lidded Berry Bucket Wire Handle
Description: A beautiful and great looking small antique agateware or graniteware berry bucket or pail with a lid. This small primitive bucket has a round flat base with straight rising sides having a rolled ridge at the base and ending is a rolled rim. The pail has a lid with a central round loop on top to pull it off. The bucket has two side wire loops at the top which are used to hang a wire handle. The bucket has three raised lines near the top for decoration. The piece has a nice blue gray colored enamel with a darker blue or black mottling throughout the exterior and interior. The lid, which is not enameled, fits loosely on the top and closes the pail but not tightly. This beautiful American agateware berry pail has a beautiful design, color, and shape. The bottom of the piece is also enameled in the same coloring as the entire exterior of the pot. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain, but most likely late 1800 to early 1900's.
Origin: Was acquired at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The pail measure ~3 3/4" diameter at the base and is ~2 5/8" high to the top edge. The piece weighs ~3.3 ounces.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of Americana that would display nicely in any collection.
Condition: The bucket is in very good condition and looks good to display. It does have several small spots on the exterior where the enameling is lost and show some minor rust signs. These are small and are on the rolled edges on the top and bottom. The lid, which is not enameled, fits loosely on the top and closes the pail but not tightly. It is in relatively good condition, but shows some rust. The inside is clean and intact and has no losses of the enameling. A very nice piece, which would display nicely in your collection.
