Antique Iron & Copper Primitive Forged Strainer Star-Formed Holes and Heart Loop
Description: A nice antique primitive wrought iron and copper handmade kitchen strainer. The piece has a handle made of wrought iron having a flat profile. The handle is attached to a copper circular straining flat bowl with the holes arranged in a star form in its center and a set of holes along the circumference. The copper strainer/bowl is riveted to the iron handle using two copper rivets. The copper strainer/bowl has rolled or folded edge on the back. The handle has a heart shaped loop to hang from. Very unusual and interesting kitchen utensils to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain, but most likely mid to late 1800s (19th century).
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The entire piece is ~15 1/2" long with the bowl being ~4 3/8" in diameter with a rather flat profile. The strainer weighs about 6 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Unmarked.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice antique wrought iron and copper kitchen tool namely a strainer with unusual features, which would make a great addition to any collection.
Condition: The strainer is in good used original condition. It is intact with no breaks, losses or repairs. It does show signs of surface oxidation throughout. In addition, the bowl itself is a bit distorted, but nothing to worry about. Finally, the heart loop is overlapping at the end of the metal and they are not in the same plane. The piece also has some scratches and wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. Be that as it may, the piece is intact, solid, and looks great.
