Cast Brass Doorknocker Tall Ship Sailing, Ship, or Galleon With Air Filled Sails
Description: A vintage cast brass heavy doorknocker. The knocker is shaped in the form of Sail Ship, Galeon, or Tall Ship with its sails fully open and full of air traveling on water. The ship is attached to a vertical bar via a swivel near the top. The vertical bar, position behind the ship, would be attached to the door from two holes on the top and bottom and the ship would be swiveled out and released to cause the knocking. The bottom of the ship has a raised solid cylinder which would hit the horizontal bar, at the bottom, and make the knocking noise. A very interesting vintage doorknocker worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Unknown but most likely mid to late 1900s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The piece measures ~7 1/2" at its longest and ~3 3/8" at its widest. The piece weighs slightly over one pound and 4 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Unmarked.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice cast brass doorknocker with an interesting design to add to your collection.
Condition: The brass ship itself is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. The piece has several surface scratches and some soiling in the crevasses. The knocker is lightly soiled and could use a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty. However, we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. The back bar has loss to the brass surface from use and from the ship moving left and right in relation to it (see the last photo). The piece swivels as it should and causes the desired knocking. A good piece to add to your knocker or maritime related collection. A nice and very unusual piece to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
