Nice Antique Half Pint English Brass Measure with Applied Handle

  • $ 77.77

Description: A very nice antique English brass measure. This brass measure has a round flat base with a quarter inch wide foot along the edge of the base and slightly inwards rising sides ending in a formed rim. The measure has two steps at the bottom of the sides. The piece also has an applied ear-shaped brass handle with a flat top and line decoration below. The sides of the measure are plain and undecorated but are marked as to the capacity and has an official stamp next to the capacity. Other than that the piece has no additional markings as to the maker or origin. It is our opinion that this is an English measure most likely from late 1800 (19th century) to early 1900 (20th century). The piece has residue of brass cleaner which we did not attempt to remove and leave to the discretion of the next owner. A beautiful old and interesting piece in good condition, which would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely late 19th century to early 20th century.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was most likely made in England.

Size: The piece measures ~4" inn height, ~3" in diameter at the base, with a ~2 3/8" diameter opening, and is ~4" at its widest including the handle. The measure weighs about 13.5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked as to the maker and origin but marked as to the capacity "HALF PINT" with an official stamp (not readable except for the letter R) to the left of the capacity.

Condition: This measure is in very good overall condition with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It is soiled and has residue of brass cleaner which we did not attempt to remove and leave to the discretion of the next owner. The piece has some surface scratches, minor dings, as well as minor signs of oxidation reflected in green colored spots here and there. The piece could use a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Be that as it may, this is a great looking piece, which would make a great addition to your collection of brass implements. Please see photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the piece's beauty.
