Old Wood w/ Brass Tacks Stereo Card Viewer Velvet Lined Eyepiece & Swivel Handle

  • $ 67.77

Description: A beautiful antique stereo card viewer or Stereoptic Viewer. The viewer is made of a nice brown wood and has velvet lining at the edge of the wooden eye piece. It is equipped with two glass lenses and a wooded rail on which the stereo card holder goes back and forth to adjust the view. The viewer has a nice wooden handle on the bottom which swivels up and down to allow for easy storing of the piece. The eye piece is lined with a velvety material so that a face would rest on it comfortably. The wood eyepiece is nicely lacquered and is held to the piece, where the lenses are, with brass tacks having nice round raised heads. The piece is unmarked, but is great looking and is in great condition despite being over 100 years old. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely late 1800s or very early 1900s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.

Size: The eye pieces is ~ 5 1/2" in width and ~3 1/4" in height. The entire piece is ~12 3/4" in length and is 7" at its widest. It is ~8" high with the handle fully open. The piece weighs slightly over 8 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful antique piece in very good condition. Truly a nice piece and would be a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The optics are good; the piece is in general good condition with scratches and minor wear. The velvet lining of the eye piece is soiled, has faded, has some wear, but is all there with no losses and is solidly in place. The piece is soiled and dusty and would probably benefit for a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Please see photos for additional condition information.
