Rare Antique English Oval Pewter Pocket Snuffbox Brass Decorated Hinged Lid
Description: This a rare antique (circa 1820) pewter oval shaped heavy pewter snuff box or snuffbox most likely English. The box has brass decoration applied to its hinged lid. It also has engraved decoration, in the form of a wave made of small dots, near the bottom along the edge of the base. The decoration on top of the lid consists of a raised curvy linear design with some brassy tones. The box is small and would easily fit in someone's pocket. The lid closes well and snaps in place without risk of opening. The box is relatively clean inside and out. This Georgian snuff box has a beautiful shape and great look. The piece is unmarked butt was obviously made by a master pewterer as can be inferred by the quality of the box and the workman ship. A beautiful box in very good condition after being around for almost 200 years. The box has a paper sticker applied to the inside of the lid, most likely put there by the previous owner, which describes and dates the box. A nice addition to any collection. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. We believe the piece was made in England Size: The box measures ~2 5/8" by ~1 1/8" by ~3/4" and weighs ~52 grams or almost 1.82 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique snuffbox in very good condition, which would make a great addition to your snuffbox collection or tobacco/smoking related collection. Condition: The box is in very good condition with minor dents, dings, scratches, and staining. However, the box is all original with no breaks or repairs. The hinged lid works great and the lid closes and snaps in place as it should. The interior of the box has is soiled and has darkened from use. Be that as it may, these issues do not distract from the beauty of the piece. The box could probably use a good cleaning to bring its full beauty out, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Just a nice antique pewter snuffbox worthy of a spot in any collection.
