Three Vintage Rockingham Bennington Yellow Ware Glazed Mottled Custard Cups
Description: A lot of three vintage glazed Rockingham or Bennington style yellow ware custard, pudding, or desert cups. The three old custard cups have a smooth outer wall which extends to a lightly rolled rim with one being more shaped than the others. The cups have the typical Bennington yellow ware background with the characteristic brown mottling throughout. The cups have flat round base with two having a slightly recessed center giving rise to a foot while the third is completely flat and unglazed. Although the three cups differ slightly from each other and they are not a set, we are selling them together as found. The sides of the cups are rounded and terminate at a shaped or slightly rolled rim. The inside of the cups is also glazed with the same yellow background color and the same brown mottling as the exterior. Three nice looking vintage custard cups to add to your collection. Date: Unknown but most likely early to mid 1900's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: All three cups are ~2 3/8" high. They measures ~3", ~3 1/8", and ~3 1/16" in dimater on top and all three have are ~2" in diameter at the base. The three pieces together weigh about a pound and three ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Only one of the cups is marked with an impressed number 556. The other two are not marked.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: These are very well made and just beautiful vintage Americana custard cups.
Condition: The three pieces are in very good condition. All three pieces have no breaks, no chips, no hairlines and no repairs. They all have general crazing to the glaze throughout the pieces both inside and out. As is the case with all these primitive old pottery pieces, the cups have a few of the usual defects you would expect such as pops, unglazed areas and uneven spots.
