Unusual Antique Stone and Wood - Wood's Celebrated Everton Taffy Print From England

Description: A rare and very uncommon print. The circular print appears to be made of some sort of stone and is fitted with a beautiful hardwood handle. The print has raised lettering which spells the legend "WOOD'S CELEBRATED EVERTON TAFFY. in a mirror image fashion so when it is used to mark a disk of taffy it would read correctly (see the last photo). We believe the print disk is made of some type of stone (soap stone?) and has beautiful wooden handle attached to it. A very interesting and unusual piece from 19th century England. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Early to mid-1800's.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southern New Jersey but was made in England.

Size: The press disk measures ~3 1/2" in diameter and the entire piece is ~5 3/8" high. The press weighs almost 10 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked as to the maker.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice antique butter print with a nice and well done design. it would make a great addition to your butter print collection.

The print has raised lettering which spells the legend "WOOD'S CELEBRATED EVERTON TAFFY. in a mirror image fashion so when it is used to mark a disk of taffy it would read correctly (see the last photo). It is in very good original condition and shows honest wear and losses from use. It has scratches, losses to the edges, dings to the surface soiling and minor cracks, all of which can be seen in the photos. The piece has no repairs or losses that would compromise its quality and function. It is all original with no repairs or modifications. Please see photos for additional condition information.
