Unusual Vintage Desktop Bronze? Ink Blotter Airplane Flying in The Clouds

  • $ 77.77

Description: This is what we believe is a mid 20th century bronze desktop ink blotter. This unusual ink blotter is made of metal, which has the color of bronze and is heavy for its size, so we are assuming it is bronze. The bottom part is semi-circular and is covered with blue ink blotting paper. This is the part where long wide strip of blotting paper would be inserted and held in place allowing the blotter to be rocked over ink writing on a paper thus blotting it. The top of the blotter appears to be made of bronze or brass and is cast in the form of a prop plane flying in the clouds. The airplane shows wings, tail, windows on the side, windows in the front and a propeller on the front or nose of the plane. The casting is very well done and the details are very nice including the clouds under the plane. Avery nice and unusual ink blotter that is very well-done, having nice heft to it, and in great condition after being around for over 50 years. A great and rather rare addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: The piece is undated but is most likely from the mid 1900s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The blotter measures ~4 1/2" by ~2 1/2" and is ~2 3/8" high to the top of the wing. The piece weighs ~11.5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice and very unusual vintage ink blotter to add to your collection.

Condition: The ink blotter is in very good original condition. We believe the blotter is made of Bronze based on its color and weight, but it could be brass. The piece is intact with no breaks or repairs. It is lightly soiled and could use a good cleaning, but we leave that to the new owner. It has a few minor scratches and some minor dings to the metal but these are truly a non-issue. The piece shows no losses and is very well done. A great unusual piece to add to your collection.
