Unusual Vintage Nickel-Plated Small Metal Liquor/Brandy Warmer Made in Germany

  • $ 49.99

Description: A rather unusual and very interesting rather small item. We believe this is a small liquor or brandy warmer. The piece is made of metal that is nickel plated and has lost quite a bit of its plating. The piece has a pull off domed lid which reveals a small glass bottle topped with a cork having a metal top. The bottom of the piece has a pull off lighter with a wick which can be lit to provide the warming once inserted back. The lid has a screw on ball like cover, which reveals a hole in the center of the lid and contains a small die (not certain why). The piece is marked MADE IN GERMANY on the bottom of the light and BAVARIA on the side of the lighter. We have been in this business for over 25 years and have never seen anything that is like this piece neither did any of our friends in the business. We speculate as to its use and its vintage and we are selling the piece as is. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Unknown but most likely early to mid 1900s (early to mid 20th century).

Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece is made in Germany

Size: The piece measures ~4 1/2" high to the top of the screw on ball, ~1 1/4" in diameter at the base, with the flask being ~1 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~2 3/8" high to the top of the of the cork. The lighter or heating element is ~15/16" in diameter and ~7/8" in height to the round flint striker. The piece weighs about 3.5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Marked MADE IN GERMANY on the bottom of the light and BAVARIA on the side of the lighter element.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a very interesting and very uncommon bottle warmer, which would make a worthy addition to your collection or as a conversation piece.

Condition: The piece is in good overall condition, with no breaks or repairs. The piece shows considerable losses to the exterior nickel plating. It also has scratches and minor dings to the exterior. The cork on the bottle is in very well and we were unable to pull it out for fear of breaking it. The lighter does not appear to have been ever used and the wick is clean and does not show any signs of being lit. The bottle is intact with some minor scratches and the die housed in the screwed in top is intact and shows no losses to the markings. The screwed-on ball shaped top does have the most pronounced dings, but is intact. Be that as it may, this is a nice and very unusual piece and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
