Vintage Brass and Agate Match Safe, Matchsafe or Vesta Spring Loaded Lid

  • $ 119.99

Description: This is an interesting vintage pocket match safe, matchsafe, or Vesta. This beautiful match safe is constructed of brass and agate stone and has a push button to release a spring-loaded lid. The matchsafe has a brass body forming the sides that is U shaped with the top and bottom being agate stone. The brass body is textured and would be used as the striker. The top of the lid is constructed of small agate rectangles held together with a brass frame having arrow shaped prongs. The hinged lid has a spring-loaded hinge which latches on the inside to a mechanism that releases it by pushing on a protruding brass button, very nice. The piece is in excellent condition and works just fine. It is our opinion that it was used sparingly if at all. The brass body shows some soiling and the piece would benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. This nice size match safe is clean and in excellent condition. The match safe is unmarked and is of unknown origin. A great looking and unusual match safe worthy of a spot in your collection. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting vintage match safe. It would make a great addition to your small box collection, matchsafe or tobacco/smoking related collection.

Condition: The matchsafe is in excellent condition with no problems. The hinged lid works great and closes tightly as it should. The spring-loaded mechanism and the push button to release the lid works properly and is intact. The match safe has no breaks, no losses, and no repairs. The vesta has a few minor surface scratches, rubbing, and some minor and barely recognizable small dings to the brass portion of the piece. We believe the piece was used sparingly if at all. It is generally clean but could still use a good polishing of the brass portion to bring out its full beauty. However, we chose not to do it and left it to the discretion of the new owner. A great piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
