Vintage Micro Mosaic Decorated Large Golden Pin Brooch Made in Italy
Description: A beautiful and very well made vintage micro mosaic pin brooch. The oval brooch is decorated with a micro mosaic (pieces of colored glass put together to form a design) floral design. The design shows yellow flowers with light blue centers, red flower with a black center and a white flower with a red and black center. There are smaller flowers and leaves in the background. The entire design is surrounded by greenish background. The edge of the brooch has a delicate golden wire design with circles throughout. The circles are also done with micro mosaic and show a black red and white bulls eye design and are surrounded by small green leaves. The piece is rather thick and has a pin on the back that swings into a simple holding mechanism. This is a substantial piece and weighs almost 1 ounce. The piece is rather old and was probably made in the first quarter or early second quarter of the 20th century. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain, but most likely from the 1920's to 1940's possibly as early as 1910.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was made in Italy.
Size and Weight: Measures ~1 7/8" by ~1 1/4". The piece weighs ~1 ounce.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Marked "MADE IN ITALY" on the back.
Condition: The brooch is in very good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has some soiling, a couple of spots where the gold coloring is lost especially along the side edge, a minor chip or two and what we believe is a few missing small green leaves surrounding the bulls eye decoration along the edge. However, all of these issues cannot be seen with the naked eye and can only be seen with a 10X magnifying loop. The back has some staining from use, but the pin is a bit bent but is intact and works as it should. Be that as it may, this is a beautiful piece worthy of a spot in your collection.
