Vintage Single Piece Wrought Iron Small Ladle Beautiful Hammered Bowl Handle with Rat Tail End
Description: A beautiful small handmade butcher or kitchen ladle. This small ladle is made of a single piece of wrought iron to form the handle and the bowl. The bowl shows beautiful hammering marks on its back side. The handle starts with a curved portion at the bowl then straightens out and widens to the end. It then forms a curved portion to hang from with what is referred to as a rat tail. The entire piece which started as a solid piece of iron or steel was obviously flattened to form the handle and hammered to form the bowl. This is a great looking vintage piece which would make a great addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but most likely made during the second half of the twentieth century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Most likely made in either Lancaster or Berks County Pennsylvania.
Size: The ladle measures ~9 1/4" long, while the bowl is ~2 1/8" in diameter. The piece weighs slightly over 4 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nicely done wrought iron or steel ladle or taster that is made in the best Americana tradition. It would be a great addition to any collection.
Condition: The ladle is in very good condition with no cracks, breaks or repairs. The piece is clean and looks great. The hammered bowl is nice and nicely shows the hammering marks. The piece has some stains and a large dark area showing some roughness on the inside of the bowl. Additionally, the surface of the piece has a few scratches and some minor dings, which are difficult to see but are there. Be that as it may, the piece is solid and beautiful and really looks great.
