1913 El Banco Nacional De Mexico One Peso Banknote P# S255b Locomotive Vignette

  • $ 49.99

Description: A nice very fine one peso banknote issued by "El Banco Nacional De Mexico" in Mexico. This is the December 6, 1913 issue. The banknote has two series numbers printed in red on the front AO and DS. The banknote is printed in black and green over yellow underprint. It depicts the bust of a woman with a tiara and a flying eagle at the bottom of her neck (M. Garcia Teruel) in an oval at left on the front. The front also has the image of a steam locomotive in the center. The back has the image of an 8 reales coin in green color in the center. The front also displays the date, denomination, and four signatures. The front has a round red seal left of center while the back has a blue oval seal with scalloped edge. This particular note has the serial number 717322 printed in red twice on the front but not on the back. This is a nice note in good original very fine condition and shows all the details nicely. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 6 December 1913.

Printer: American Bank Note Company of New York

Size: The banknote measures ~6" by ~2 3/4".

Pick Number: S255b.

Condition: I would grade this note as very fine with all the details still well preserved. The note was is soiled and has 3 vertical creases as well as a light horizontal fold. The note also shows general wrinkling. It is intact with no tears or splits, but shows general roughness to its edges with some nicks at the ends of the folds. Its corners are intact but show rounding and bumps. The note has no pinholes, some staining but no large objectionable stains, and no graffiti. The note is limp and its colors are no longer vivid and the note in general is dull and has a dirty look from the soiling. The note also has two spots on the front which are round and white in color. These spots are a result of surface paper loss we are not certain how it happened, but they are there. The spots do not go through, but they are rather on the surface. There is a similar spot, which is not round in shape along the middle vertical fold near the bottom edge. Be that as it may, this is a nice and rather scarce note showing two series numbers (AO and DS), which would fit nicely in any collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
