  • $ 124.99

Description: A beautiful very fine or much better Banknote from South Africa. This is the South African Reserve Bank one Pound note issued 11 April,1938. The banknote is black in color over a light red background. The note depicts the image of a sailing ship to the left of the front with people in various activities along the bottom and a factory with multiple chimneys spewing smoke to the right. There is a rising sun next to the ship. The back is brown and red in color and shows the arms of South Africa in the center. The note has a watermark showing the head of J. van Riebeek within the sun's disk. The note is written in English and Afrikaans. The front has one signature, the date and the serial number as well as the denomination. This particular note has the serial number A over 68 408727, which is displayed twice in black on the front. The back only displays the name of the bank and the denomination. Please carefully review the scans provided as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 11 April 1938.

Printer: St. Lukes Printing Works, London, England.

Size: The banknote measures 6" by ~3/8".

Pick Number: P 84c and is listed as B712c in the banknote book.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as nice very fine or better. The note has vertical folds and a light horizontal fold. It has some light wrinkling and bumps at the corners. The note is lightly soiled but has no stains. It has no pinholes, no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. The note shows some light signs of roughness along the edges, but no appreciable losses. The corners are nicely squared and have minimum rounding if any but have no losses. A nice looking and well margined example of this scarce note to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
