1941 Mozambique One Escudo Banknote P81 Banco Nacional Ultamarino Very Fine

  • $ 64.99

Description: A beautiful very fine or better Banknote from Mozambique on the eastern coast of Africa. This is the 1 September 1941, One Escudo, issued during the Portuguese administration. The banknote has a green coloring on multicolor under-print (containing green, brown, light blue, and pink) on the front. The front also has the name of Banco Nacional Ultramarino (National Overseas Bank) of Lisbon Portugal in the top margin and indicates that it is from the Provincia de Mozambique or the Province of Mozambique. The banknote displays the date and the denomination on the front and only the denomination on the back. The front also depicts the bank's seal to the right, which displays a steam ship, and the bust of F. de Oliveira Chamico to the left. The note has the image of a seated woman with sailing ships in the background all in green coloring on the back. The note has two signatures on the front. This particular note has the serial number B559,916 which is displayed on the front twice in red, but is not displayed on the back. The paper of the note is thick and has quite a bit of stiffness but has creases, folds, wrinkling, some light soiling, and minor staining. Please carefully view scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1 September 1941.

Printer: Bradbury, Wilkinson, & Co. of London England.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/8" by ~3 1/4".

Pick Number: P 81.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine or better with all the details being very well preserved. The paper of the note is thick and has quite a bit of stiffness, but has folds and considerable wrinkling. The note has several vertical and a horizontal folds and creases. It is lightly soiled with minor staining. The corners are intact and mostly squared with some rounding but have bumps and heavy creases, which are obvious on the back. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears, and no splits. The note's edges are intact with some light roughness, with the exception of a bump on the right edge near the bottom corner, which shows a deep bump but no paper loss. The colors are still sharp and vivid with no appreciable fading. Please see photo for additional condition information.
