Description: A beautiful crisp extremely fine or much better one English pound banknote. This banknote was issued in the period 1949 through 1955 and is deep green in color. It shows a seated Britannia with lance in her left hand to the left of the front. The back has the same color scheme with a slight reddish hue on top of a central clear circle. There are two vignettes one to the left and one to the right of the back showing Saint George on his horse slaying the dragon. The front displays the denomination while the back does not. There is a long building near the top of the back. The banknote has a watermark showing the head of a woman wearing a head dress within the circle in the bottom center. The note is signed by P. S. Beale the Chief Cashier the Bank of England at the time and has the prefix J94C. This particular note has the low serial number 308910. The note has a security thread which is vertical and is located left of center if you look at the front of the note. Condition: I would grade this banknote as a beautiful extremely fine or much better. I believe the note could be viewed as almost uncirculated. The note has all of its details being well preserved. The note has no folds, no creases, and no wrinkling. It has no tears, splits, pinholes, stains, or graffiti. The corners are intact, squared and have no rounding at all. The banknote retains its original crispiness and is great looking. The only issue is the fact that the note has some signs of minor soiling especially along the edges and minor signs of handling and hence our grade of XF to AU instead of Crisp Uncirculated. Please see scan for additional condition information.
