1950 Egypt One Pound Banknote Pick Number 24a Signature Leith-Ross Beautiful Extremely Fine or Better Currency

  • $ 375.00

Description: A beautiful extremely fine or much better banknote from Egypt. This is the July 12, 1950 one pound. The banknote is blue brown, lilac and green on the front. It has the image of King Farouk the first in a circular frame to the right and a lilac colored circle to the left of the front. The note is written in Arabic on the front with the serial number being in both Arabic and English. The back of the note is blue in color and depicts the image of the temple of Isis on the island of Philae in the Nile. The back has a white circle to the left of the front where the water mark is located. The back is written in English and shows the name of the National Bank of Egypt and the denomination both in numerals and spelled out. The note has a watermark showing the head of the Sphinx. This particular note has the serial number 813737 and is series GH/9. The note is clean and retains quite a bit of its original crispiness and stiffness. It was issued by the National Bank of Egypt and is signed by F. W. Leith-Ross, who was the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 12th July 1950.

Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. of New Malden, Surrey, England.

Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/4" by ~3 3/8".

Pick Number: P24a.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good extremely fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has one light central vertical fold but no detectable horizontal fold. The note retain most of its original stiffness and crispiness. It is clean with no stains, no pinholes, no tears, no splits, and no graffiti, which is a miracle for an Egyptian banknote. The corners are nicely squared and have minor rounding if any. Three of the corners have a creases and hence our grade as extremely fine instead of AU. The edges are intact and show no roughness. A great looking scarce note, which would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
