1952 National Bank of Egypt 50 Piastres Banknote P #29a Signed M A Fekry VF++
Description: A beautiful very fine or better banknote from Egypt. This is the 8 May 1952 Egyptian fifty Piastres issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is brown on multicolored underprint. It depicts the image of Tutankhamun to the right of the front within a scalloped circle. The note also depicts an ancient Egyptian temple in the center of the back with two ram statues in the bottom with a felucca on the river below the temple. The note has a watermark depicting the Sphinx and has no security thread. The front has the signature of Mohammed Amin Fekry, the Governor of the bank at the time, the date, the serial number, and the denomination all in Arabic. The back has the name of the bank and the denomination in English. This particular note has the serial number 799118 and is series Zane Seen/1. This is Pick Number 29a and is listed in the Banknote Book as B129a. This is a rather uncommon note representing the earliest date of issue. Condition: I would grade the note as a good very fine or much better with all it details being well preserved. The note is lightly soiled but has no objectionable stains. It does have some light staining on the back near the top left corner as well a few minor spots here and there all of which can be seen in the photos. The note still retains some of its crispiness. It has several vertical folds but no apparent horizontal fold. Its corners are intact and squared with minimum rounding and minor bumps. Its edges show very minor roughness mostly at the ends of the folds. A nice note representing the first day of issue for this type. It is rather difficult to come by and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
