1966 Bank of Tanzania Five Shillings Banknote P1a Julius Nyerere Gem Unc. 65 EPQ

Description: A Gem Uncirculated banknote issued by the Bank of Tanzania on the eastern coast of Africa. This is the no date 5 Shilling banknote known to have been issued in 1966. The banknote is brown on multicolored under-print on the front. The front also has the name of the bank, the denomination, serial number, and two signatures. The banknote displays only the denomination and the name of the bank on the back. The front also depicts the bust of Julius Nyerere, the first president of the independent country of Tanzania, to the right. The front also has the arms of the country in the center and a wreath made of pink flowers to the left where a watermark can be found. The back is brown and depicts Mount Kilimanjaro with a tree in the forefront, cloud and a wreath made of flowers to the right surrounding an white oval where the watermark is located. Both the front and back are written in English and Swahili, the two official languages of the country at the time. This particular note has the serial number BE512165, which is displayed on the front twice in black, but is not displayed on the back. The note has a watermark depicting the head of a giraffe. The note also has a security thread to the right of center. Please carefully view scan as it is part of our description.
