20 Pesos Banknote Provisional Government Mexico Veracruz 1.12.1914 Apparent UNC

  • $ 49.99

Description: A beautiful, large size crisp apparent uncirculated banknote issued by the Provisional Government of Mexico or Gobierno Provisional de Mexico. This is the Veracruz December 1, 1914, series D, 20 pesos banknote issued per the 19 September 1914 decree. The front of the banknote depicts a seated Liberty to the left holding a shield with the words Consttucion Mexico and the date 1914 in one hand and a branch with leaves in the other. There is also an image of a spread eagle with a snake in its beak and volcanoes in the background within an oval in the center all in black and white over a yellowish-brown colored background. The back has a blue colored design showing a one Peso coin in the center on an off-white background. The bank note has the denomination in the four corners of the front and back with what is referred to as the curved base twos. It has a large "20"on the center line to the right. It has a red circular treasury seal left of center on the back and a blue rectangular treasury seal with flowers at the ends near the top edge of the back right of center. This note has the serial number 327526 C displayed twice in red on the front and does not display the serial number on the back. The note is a series D note and has two signatures displayed on the front but has no water mark that we could find. The paper of the note retains all of its original stiffness and its colors are vivid. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: December 1, 1914.

Printer: Mexico Oficina del Gobierno.

Size: The banknote measures ~7 3/8" by ~3 5/16".

Pick Number: Pick number S1110b.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a crisp apparent uncirculated. The banknote has all the details and they are very well preserved. The note retains all of its original stiffness, crispiness and sheen. The note is clean with no stains. The note has no graffiti, no tears, no splits, and no pinholes. It has no folds or creases, and it corners are fully squared with no rounding. The note has a small spot of roughness in the center of the left side edge as you look at the front, which we believe is due to miss handling as opposed to circulation. This is the reason we grade the note as apparent uncirculated instead of straight uncirculated. Be that as it may, this is a great, uncirculated, and fairly uncommon banknote to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
