April 6, 1937 Mozambique 20 Escudos Banknote P74 Banco Nacional Ultamarino F

  • $ 77.77

Description: A beautiful fine or better banknote from Mozambique on the eastern coast of Africa. This is the 6 April 1937, 20 Escudos, issued during the Portuguese administration. The banknote has a blue design on multicolor under-print on the front. The front also has the name of Banco Nacional Ultramarino (National Overseas Bank) of Lisbon Portugal in the top margin. The banknote displays the date and the denomination on the front and only the denomination on the back. The front also depicts the bank's seal in the lower right as well as the bust of Antonio Ennes, the famous Portuguese politician and writer, left of center. The note has the image of a seated woman with sailing ships in the background all in blue coloring on the back. The note has two signatures on the front. This particular note has the serial number MD.020.802, which is displayed on the front twice in red, but is not displayed on the back. The note is soiled and shows considerable wrinkling as well as folds. It has two small pinholes in the center due to excessive folding. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 6 April 1937.

Printer: Bradbury, Wilkinson, & Co. of Surrey England.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 3/8" by ~3 1/8".  Pick Number: P74.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good fine with all the details still preserved. The note has several folds and general wrinkling and was most likely lightly pressed. It is lightly soiled but has no objectionable stains. The edges are intact with minimum roughness but has no tears or splits. The corners are intact but show rounding and bumps. The note has no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. It has two small pinholes in the center due to excessive folding. Be that as it may, this is still a nice note in a presentable condition to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
