Currency 1926 Egypt One Pound Banknote P20 Signed Hornsby Egyptian Fallah VF25

  • $ 877.77

Description: A beautiful very fine banknote from Egypt. This is the July 6, 1926 one pound. This is a beautiful and very colorful banknote, which in my opinion is one of the prettiest Egyptian banknotes. This is known as the "Fallah" banknote. The note has the image of an Egyptian peasant or Fallah in a circular frame to the right of the front. The front which is generally green in color has also a multicolored background with beautiful decorative designs imbedded in the body of the note and along the edges. The front also has a white circle to the left of the front where the watermark is located. The back is purple and has the image of Egyptian Islamic buildings with a minaret in the center surrounded by two circles. One of the circles has the denomination in Arabic and English on top of each other and the other circle is clear and is where the watermark is located. The front of the note is written in Arabic and English lettering while the back is in Arabic, with only the denomination being in English. The note shows the denomination on both the front and back. The note has a watermark showing the head of the Sphinx. This particular note has the serial number 051305 and is series J/6. It is signed by Bertram Hornsby, who was the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. It was issued by the National Bank of Egypt. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 6th July 1926.

Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. of New Malden, Surrey, England.

Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/4" by ~3 3/8".

Pick Number: P20 and is listed in the Banknote Book as B119a.

Condition: The banknote is graded as Very Fine 25 by PMG and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. It has the notation Repaired, Tape on the back. The note has great eye appeal and looks great. It is slightly soiled, has many folds and creases, and has a small spot in the center where you can see a small pinhole due to excessive holding. The note has been deftly repaired and the repair is hardly noticeable. A great note to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
