  • $ 59.99

Description: A beautiful crisp extremely fine or better banknote from Egypt. This is the Cairo 9 March 1958 five pounds banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is dark green with blue-gray tones and an orange colored center on the front. It depicts the image of Tutankhamen facing forward within a circular frame to the top right of the front. The back is green in color and shows an allegorical figure representing the river Nile, which gives life to Egypt. The front also indicates that the note was issued according to the decree dated 25th June 1898. This particular note has the serial number 098226 and is from the series (Alef Beh) AB/172, which is displayed twice in black lettering on the front and not on the back. The note has a watermark depicting a lotus flower which is located bottom center. It is signed by Abdel Gelil El-Emary the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 9 March 1958.

Printer: Uncertain.

Size: The banknote measures ~6 5/8" by ~3 1/2".

Pick Number: P 31.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice extremely fine or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has three vertical folds that are relatively light. It shows some very light soiling and has a few light stains which can be seen in the scans. The note retains much of its original stiffness and crispiness. The corners are fully squared with minimum rounding if any and do not display creasing or significant bumps. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears or splits. A beautiful crisp note in nice full margins and good original condition worthy of a spot in your collection of Egyptian banknotes. Please see scans for additional condition information.
