  • $ 49.99

Description: A nice fine or much better ten liras banknote issued by "Turkyie Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankasi" or Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. This is the L. 1930 issue (26.10.1953). The banknote is issued according to the law of 11 Haziran 1930 (L. 1930) and is a fifth issue of the type with the brownish-red back. The note is printed in green over multicolored underprint on the front. The front depicts the image Kemal or Kamal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, to the right of the front. The front also displays the denomination, the serial number, and three signatures. The back is red in color and has an image of a stone bridge over a river in Edirne with trees. The back also displays the denomination. This particular note has the serial number 453489 printed twice in black on the front and the series number Z50 again printed twice in black on the front. The note has a watermark depicting Kemal Ataturk's bust and a security wire right of center. Please carefully review the provided scans as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: The note is undated. However, Krause's Catalog indicate an issue date of 26.10.1953 (26 October 1953), while the Banknote Book suggests that it was introduced 15.05.1961 (15 May 1961).

Printer: Turkish Central Bank (TCMB-Turkyie Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankasi).

Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/8" by ~2 3/4".

Pick Number: 160 and is listed as B243a in the Banknote Book.

Condition: For international buyers, please note that the new US postal rates for overseas shipping for first class shipments are generally very high and we are unable to change them. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. So please check the shipping cost to your location before bidding. I would grade this banknote as a good fine or much better with all of its details being still well preserved. The note is soiled and has many folds and creases both vertical and horizontal. The note has minor staining, especially on the back, but no major objectionable stains. The edges are rough, have a few nicks, and a long fold along the top edge, which we did not attempt to flatten, thus keeping the note in its original circulated condition. The corners are intact with some rounding, creases, folds, and bumps. The note has no pinholes, tears, no splits, and no graffiti. It is still intact with some residual stiffness. A nice note at a reasonable price to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
