Antique Cast Iron Gold Colored Still Penny Bank Statue of Liberty By AC Williams

  • $ 77.77

Description: This is a nice antique cast iron penny bank in the form of the statue of liberty. The bank is painted in gold color and has red paint for the flame held by Liberty in her raised hand. The bank appears to be all original with the possibility that the screw is a replacement. The bank has the words STATUE OF LIBERTY in raised lettering on the front at the bottom of the base. Please see Andy and Susan Moore's Book "The Penny Bank Book: Collecting Still Banks" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd. in 1984 bank number 1164 page 117 for a similar example. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1910-1932.

Origin: USA.

Size and Weight: Measures ~6 1/8" high with the base being ~2 1/4" by ~2 1/4". The piece weighs about 12 ounces.

Maker: A. C. Williams US.

Marks: No marks on the outside and we were unable to open the bank to inspect the interior. We believe the screw is a replacement and is screwed is the wrong way and hence the fact that the bank edges are not well lined and the screw is not amenable to being unscrewed.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice example of cast iron figural penny banks, which would display very well and make a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The bank is in good used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. It appears to be all original with the exception of the screw holding it together, which we suspect is a replacement. We were unable to unscrew it to open the bank to inspect the interior. This is the main reason we believe the screw is a replacement and is screwed is the wrong way and hence the fact that the bank edges are not well lined and the screw is not amenable to being unscrewed easily. The bank retains quite a bit of its original paint with minor losses, which can be seen in the photos. Because of the issues we outline here we are selling the bank AS IS at a fraction of its true value. Please view photos carefully for additional condition information.
