Nice Vintage Cast Iron Still Bank Large Standing Mailbox Marked JM99 IRON ART

Description: A beautiful vintage cast iron still penny bank. It is cast in the form of a standing mailbox. It is the large variety which is ~5 1/4" tall. The box is a reproduction of the original Hubley bank from late 1920s. It is cast by Iron Art. The bank is made of 4 interlocking pieces held together with one screw. All pieces are marked JM99 IRON ART. The coin slot is the letter deposit slot that is covered with a swinging cover having a handle. The bank is painted with a dark blue color verging on black. See page 102 of Andy and Susan Moore's book "The Penny Bank Book; Collecting Still Banks" Published by Schiffer Books, of Exton, PA in 1984 for a similar example (bank 841). Date: Unknown but most likely mid to late 1900s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southern New Jersey USA.

Size: Bank measures ~5 3/8" in height, and its body is ~2 1/4" by ~2 1/2". The piece weighs over one and a half pounds.

Marks: Stamped JM99 IRON ART in various locations.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice example of this very desirable bank. It would display very well and make a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The bank is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It maintains most of its original paint with minimum loss with a few minor scratches. It has a few minor spots of rust and is soiled. Be that as it may the piece is beautiful and would display very well.
