1778 FF Charles III of Spain Silver Coin Mexico 8 Reales Mint Mark Mo Toned XF+

  • $ 427.77

Description: A great looking and nicely toned extremely fine 1778 Mexican crown size silver coin. This is the Charles III 8 Reales depicting the bust of King Charles the third of Spain on the obverse. The obverse of this large, silver dollar size coin, has the legend "CAROLUS.III.DEI.GRATIA" surrounding the king's bust and the date 1778 below it. The reverse depicts the crowned arms of Spain between pillars with the legend "HESPAN.ET IND.REX" followed by the mint mark "Mo" then "8R. F.F." all surrounding the arms. These coins were used extensively in the US before the silver dollars were circulated. The coin is nicely toned and shows all the details very well. It is a truly a nice coin with great eye appeal and has nice heft to it. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1778.

Origin: Mexico.

Weight and Size: The coin is ~39 mm in diameter and weighs ~26.8 grams of 0.9030 silver.

References: KM#106.2.

Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice extremely fine with all the details being well preserved and wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. The coin has even wear on both sides and some scratches, dings to the surface, and bag marks which can be seen in the photos. It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. The reverse is beautiful, clean, and shows details of the arms very well. The coin also has wear to the highest points but still retains its details and looks great. A great coin to add to your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information.
