1810 Small Sterling Silver Snuff Box By Joseph Willmore Birmingham England

Description: Antique 1810 Sterling Silver Snuff Box or snuffbox from Birmingham England. This Georgian snuff box has the Maker's Mark for Joseph Willmore, a well known silversmiths inn Birmingham at that time. The piece is relatively small size and its exterior is undecorated. The piece is shiny and is not monogrammed. The piece has a hinged lid with the front of the lid having a small extension past the side to allow for opening the lid (not quite a thumb piece). The inside of the box has a nice gold wash and retains most of its original luster. The box has a hinged lid and is fully hallmarked on the inside of the box and the back of the lid. Just a great and wonderful antique that very seldom comes by in such good condition. It is in very good condition after being around for over 200 years. Origin: Birmingham England, in the United Kingdom.

Size: Measures ~1 7/8" by ~1 1/8 " and is 1/2" high. The piece weighs about 25 grams.

Maker: Joseph Willmore.

Marks: Marked with a Lion Passant (for sterling) J.W within an oval (for Joseph Willmore) and the King's head facing right (indicating taxes were paid) on the inside of the lid. Also marked with an Anchor (Birmingham mark), J.W and the date letter m within a rectangle with rounded bottom (1810-1811).

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful rare antique made by an accomplished silversmith of Birmingham England, which would make a great addition to any collection.

Condition: The snuff box is in very good condition with no breaks, or repairs. The inside retains most of its original gold wash and the exterior, which is undecorated, has a nice silver appearance with minor surface marks, some scratches and a few minor and very small dings, which are difficult to see but are there. The hinges for the lid is intact and work well. The box closes very well and tight. The box is not monogrammed and hence can be monogrammed by the new owner to give as a gift or personalize it for your use. A great antique made by an accomplished silversmith (Joseph Willmore) from Birmingham England, which very seldom comes by. Please see photos for additional condition information.
